Learning to fly
It can take just as little as 10 hours of flight training before you will be flying solo around the Waikato skies. We are pleased to offer a training program that is one of the most highly structured and thorough in the industry while also allowing for an element of flexibility as we recognise that no two students are the same. Not a new pilot?
Fly Te Kowhai yields plenty of opportunities for experienced and qualified pilots: we can offer you aircraft hire for private use, or provide you with Biennial Flight Reviews, overseas licence conversions, and advanced training for aerobatics, instructor and test pilot qualifications. Our instructing team can provide instruction on any type of microlight aircraft and are also flight examiners so we can issue your NZ Pilot Certificate on site through national microlight affiliation Sport Aviation Corp. Te Kowhai Airfield is the perfect place for a flying school. We train all year round from our own private runway and purpose built office and classroom facilities. Within 20 minutes minutes flying time we have access to varied terrain from the flat Waikato farm land to the west coast and rugged hill country of the central North Island, each bringing their own unique set of conditions to challenge and educate you. Outside of the busy Hamilton Airport controlled airspace, there are no delays due to Air Traffic Control or busy traffic flows. You get all the benefits of a large commercialised flying school with the personalised service and friendly atmosphere of a business run in the backyard of a family farm block by Barry, Sally and Dave Readman
